june, 23 . More than 500 SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Village Lumbini has celebrated 32nd International SOS Day on 23rd June 2018 across 135 countries of the world. The day is the birthday of Pro. Dr. Hermann Gmeiner who is the founder father of SOS Children’s Villages.
SOS Children’s Villages are an independent, non -governmental social development organization that provides a caring family environment for development of those children who have lost their parents and /or who are at risk of losing parental care.
To give tribute to founder father, SOS Children’s Village Lumbini has celebrated 32nd International SOS Day along with in its ancillary projects; SOS Youth Facility Lumbini, SOS Kindergarten Lumbini and SOS Community Based Family Strengthening Program Lumbini organizing different sports, fun game, talent show and cultural programs in regard to celebrate SOS Day for a week.
To mark the SOS Day, SOS Children’s Village Lumbini organized ‘5th SOS Lumbini Zonal Level Invitational Taekwondo Championship – 2018’ on 16th June 2018 where more than 120 players participated in different weight categories from different districts.
The program started with Chairing by Chief Guest honourable Mr. Surendra Hamal, Member of Province No-5, Olympian and Bronze medallist of 35th Asian weight lifting Championship and Special Guest honourable Mr. Bhuvaneswor Chaudhary, Member Province No-5.
Team first SOS Children’s Village Lumbini, Team second Everybody Fits and team third Butwal Taekwondo Dozang received award from Chief Guest. Ms. Roshni Tamang from Butwal Taekwondo Dozang and Mr. Dan Bahadur Basnet from SOS Children’s Village Lumbini achieved best player female and male respectively.
It has been taking care of 152 children who are getting love, respect and security in a loving home. They are developing their personality physically, mentally and intellectually in SOS Children’s Village.
“Mr. Prashanta Bikram Malla, Ms. Rachana Chhettri and other 15 sponsors are honoured by Mr. Vijay Jung Rana, Project Director of SOS Children’s Village Lumbini as they have been helping children of SOS Children’s Village,” said Ms. Amrita Udas, Senior Secretary of SOS Children’s Village Lumbini.
The program was opened with chairing by Chief Guest honourable Mr. Lila Giri, Minister Industrial, Tourism, Forest and Environment of Province No. 5 where Ms. Uma Kafle, Sub Mayer of Siddharthanagar Municipality, Ms. Sharada Bashyal, Chief Women Development Officer Rupandehi, Renowned Social worker and Sponsor of SOS Children’s Village Lumbini Mr. Narayan Agrawal and others held seats as Guest.
The first SOS Children’s Village Imst was stablished on 1949 at Austria. Till date, SOS Children’s Village Nepal has ten Children’s Villages in Bhaktapur, Kavre, Jorpati, Pokhara (2), Surkhet, Itahari, Bharatpur, Lumbini and Dhangadhi. It has training centres, health centre, social centres, schools and emergency program.
