Rohini River a symbol of peace

    Rohini River

The Rohini River in the eastern part of Rupandehi district is a symbol of peace. The discovery and research of Buddhist civilization has proved this river as a symbol of the path of peace. The Rohini River is a river established by The Buddha. During the Buddha period, the rohini river was the border of the Kolya Republic (Devdaha) and the Shakya Republic (Kapilvastu). The river originates from Chure hills of Palpa district. Devdaha municipality and Tilottama municipality of Rupandehi district share a border and Omsatia rural municipality and Rohini rural municipality. This peaceful river flowing from Nepal to India merges with the Ganges River of India. Experts say that the length of this river is about 80 miles in Nepal and India. The historic Rohini River is also known as the Rohini River during the Buddha era. This river, which was the border of the Kolya Republic and the Shakya Republic during the Time of Buddha, has its significance as it is a river calmed by the Buddha in the war over water.

This river, which carries the Rohini
Buddhist civilization, is a river of peace by The Buddha. There was a dispute between the farmers of the two states over the water sharing of this river, which is on the border of the Kolya Republic and the Shakya Republic. When the farmers’ quarrel reached the state level, the problem took a violent form, it is found in the Jatak Athkatha story of the Rohini civilization of the Buddha era. The water of the Rohini River has been used by the farmers of the Kolya Republic and The Shakya Republic for years on the basis of need. There was never a dispute about water and borders. But in the year of conflict, the water in the river decreased due to less water in the year. As the water in the river receded, the farmers faced a shortage of water for irrigation. Farmers of the two countries could not use the water together as there was less water in the river. There was a big dispute among the farmers of both the countries over who would use the water as the water in the river could be irrigated only to the farmers of one country. The peasant conflict reached a state of war between the state level and the army of the state. After the situation of war was created, the commanders of the two countries as well as the kings decided to fight. Buddha’s war over water was about to take place when buddha came to the banks of rohini river and managed to stop the war. After knowing that the war would take place, Buddha came to the banks of the Rohini River and convinced the kings and people of both the countries and ended the war forever and made peace. Therefore, the Rohini River is a historical river associated with Buddha as a symbol of peace. It is necessary to promote it and develop it as a tourist area.

    The Rohini River
, a symbol of peace, is known as an important river in buddhist times. Due to this river, the Shakya Republic and the Kolya Republic of that time were strong in the agricultural economy. It is found in Buddhist history that these two states, which have established a prosperous state in the field of agriculture, have managed irrigation by building the same barrier in the Rohini River. Buddha’s discourse on the banks of the same river became a way to institutionalize the path of peace and non-violence in order to end the dispute and war-like situation of these two kingdoms, which were art, culture, civilization and prosperous. This river is still a symbol of peace. At present, the four local levels associated with this river and the Lumbini Development Trust need to carry out research and develop it as a symbol of peace.

    Gautam Buddha, the
great human being, preached with the kings of the two countries to stop the war over water in the Rohini River. He has also asked questions to the kings while giving various sermons. What is the reason for Buddha’s quarrel, Maharaj? He asked questions. The king replies, saying it’s water. What is the value of water? Maharaj says. The king says that God is less. Buddha asks, “How much does the earth cost, Maharaja?” The king replies, “God is precious.” How much does the Kshatriyas cost, the Buddha asks the question again? The king replies that the value of Kshatriyas is invaluable. Why does Buddha destroy precious Kshatriyas by fighting because of low-cost water, maharaj reminds us that war is fatal for human beings. Teaching various jatakas, Buddha trains the kings, commanders and people of both the kingdoms with buddha’s word for the path of peace. He has played a role in turning the upcoming war into peace and guiding the Shakya Republic and the Kolya Republic on the path of peace.

    In the end
, although Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, is being propagated all over the world, its other sites have not been developed. Many Buddhist sites in Rupandehi, Nawalparasi and Kapilvastu have been neglected due to lack of cultural and infrastructure development. Similarly, rohini is a historic and sacred river hidden in Rupandehi. There is a need to institutionalize this river, which was established by Buddha, as a symbol of protection and peace. During the Buddha period, the river, which falls on the border of the Kolya Republic (Devdaha) and the Shakya Republic (Kapilvastu), seems to be supporting the agricultural economy and sending a message of its peace. This river can be an example for developing positive thinking when morality and character are disappearing in human beings. In order to take the world on the path of peace, it is necessary to remember buddha’s teachings on the banks of rohini river. In today’s time, peace can be maintained by imitating and following buddha’s word. Therefore, it is necessary for the state to recognize the Rohini River, which is a symbol of peace. If the peace of the Rohini river can be taken to the world, the war and crime seen among the people can be ended. The Buddha message of the Rohini river will be able to put an end to the ongoing wars in different countries and lead peace. The Government of Nepal and The Lumbini Development Trust need to pay attention to this.
