Bhairahawa, October 2: Participants have emphasized the need to further strengthen mutual cooperation and understanding by expanding the historic relationship between Nepal and China to the people-to-people level. Speaking at a greetings exchange program organized by the Nepal-China Friendship Society, Lumbini, at Pugata Bhumi Jetavan Vihara in Bhairahawa, Rupandehi, on Thursday to mark the 77th Chinese National Day, speakers said Nepal-China relations are not limited to government-to-government ties but are also deep and cordial at the people-to-people level.
Chief guest and Deputy Mayor of Siddharthanagar Municipality Uma Adhikari said the relationship between Nepal and China is historic, friendly and based on mutual respect. She said Nepal could learn discipline, a sense of collective responsibility and a culture of cooperation from China’s development experience. Chairperson of the Nepal-China Friendship Society, Lumbini, Manish Kumar Joshi, said relations between Nepal and China have been strengthening over time. He noted that China’s support to Nepal in areas including education, infrastructure development and tourism has further strengthened bilateral cooperation. Joshi also said China’s growing interest in the development of Lumbini has brought the cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries closer.
Professor Dr. Sagar Neupane of Lumbini Buddhist University said Nepal could learn important lessons from China’s economic and social development. He emphasized the need for both countries to have a deeper understanding of each other’s history, culture and development priorities for effective cooperation. Dr. Neupane said Nepal-China relations should be advanced not only through economic and political cooperation but also through cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He said developing Lumbini as an important center of cultural ties between the two countries could have a positive impact on tourism, education and economic cooperation. The program also discussed Nepal-China historical relations, the development of Lumbini, cultural exchanges and ways to further strengthen relations between the peoples of the two countries.
