Bhairahawa, 2 March. Inspector General of Police Dan Bahadur Karki, who took helm of the Nepal Police as its 33rd chief on November 13, 2025, has unveiled an impressive array of achievements and reforms accomplished during his inaugural 100 days in office, marking what officials describe as a foundational phase for building a more accountable, technology-savvy, and citizen-centric force.

Since assuming leadership, IGP Karki has prioritized transforming the organization through clear policies, performance-driven management, stricter internal discipline, and the adoption of scientific approaches to crime investigation. Drawing on insights from retired senior officers, the leadership has focused on institutional stability, transparency in operations, and fostering a culture of accountability bolstered by enhanced performance evaluations.

A major push toward digital transformation has strengthened ties between the police and the public, grounded in mutual trust and cooperation. Among the concrete steps taken, a new Performance Evaluation Guideline now enables monthly assessments of District Police Offices, while an online system streamlines applications for emergency concessional loans accessible to personnel from office assistants up to Senior Sub-Inspectors. Disparities in ration entitlements were resolved with the addition of three new item categories starting February 13.

Security-focused initiatives included province-wide seminars across all seven provinces and a high-level strategic conference addressing current challenges and future directions in police management and deployment. At headquarters, an Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Analytics Cell was set up to modernize investigations. Oversight intensified with monitoring visits to 37 units nationwide, leading to targeted directives, while seven new police posts and service centers were inaugurated in locations such as Satdobato, Bouddha, and Koteshwor, and land secured for 12 more facilities.

On the crime-fighting front, authorities reported exceptional results in tackling serious offenses, achieving near-total success in probing heinous crimes. In 123 homicide investigations, 188 suspects were arrested, and in 475 cases of rape and attempted rape, 445 individuals faced legal proceedings. Efforts to enforce court verdicts led to the capture of 5,781 fugitives, recovering the equivalent of 1,960 years in imprisonment terms and Rs. 383.6 million in fines.

Anti-narcotics drives registered 1,548 cases against 2,455 people, with substantial hauls including over 17,000 kg of marijuana, 420 kg of hashish, 10 kg of heroin, and hundreds of thousands of banned narcotic units, alongside 255 illegal firearms. More than 4,000 missing individuals were safely reunited with their families.

Community outreach expanded significantly through the Community-Police Partnership Program, which organized 27,528 events reaching over 1.2 million citizens, while the “Hamro Police” scheme was successfully launched across Kathmandu Valley’s three districts.

Personnel welfare and administrative improvements featured prominently, with streamlined transfer processes requiring officers to assume duty before receiving rank insignia, regular monthly interactions with families of fallen colleagues, and distribution of relief materials to vulnerable communities in districts like Morang and Bara. The force received and redistributed 240 vehicles to operational units, and revenue protection operations seized goods valued at around Rs. 599.5 million, covering items from smuggled gold to illegal timber and wildlife products.

In a personal gesture of social commitment, IGP Karki inaugurated a Rs. 500,000 endowment fund named after his late father at a secondary school in Gulmi. Three international fugitives, including one accused of issuing death threats online, were extradited to Nepal. Nationwide, 456 CCTV cameras were installed in coordination with partners, an online vehicle registration and tracking system for stolen vehicles went live via the Traffic Police website, and the official portal was upgraded to display information on unidentified bodies and missing persons.

With the House of Representatives election set for March 5, comprehensive security arrangements have been finalized in close collaboration with stakeholders and veteran police experts to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and fair process.

Reflecting on the November 13 to February 20 period, the IGP’s Secretariat characterized it as a pivotal chapter in advancing organizational reform, good governance, and tangible results. By combining resolute action against crime with empathetic public service, the leadership aims to solidify public confidence and establish the Nepal Police as a forward-looking, professional institution equipped for tomorrow’s challenges.
